Hornblower Class Blog

Competition Superstars!

What an exciting morning we had on Wednesday. The class were brilliant performing their dances in front of several other schools. The superhero dance was a riot of colour and movement, and the St. George and the Dragon dance was highly dramatic! Masks, shields and capes really brought the dances alive! Photos will follow later.

Unsurprisingly, this was the highlight the children wanted to talk about. When asked to give a one word review to how they felt, responses went from "amazing!" (Ophelia), "joyful" (Hannah), and "awesome" (Oscar M). Many mentioned their nerves, but Aaliyah captured their feeling perfectly: "I was nervous but proud that I did it." Well done Hornblower, and Wakeman. We are all very proud of you too. A special thanks to Mr Banks from Sporting Influence for his excellent choreography, enthusiasm and ability to turn sports tabards into superhero capes!

In maths, we have started a new unit about measuring length and height in cm and m. We will continue to practice times tables and related division facts, as these are some of the core maths learning in Year 2.

We also enjoyed learning about using adverbs to modify verbs in English, and saw how the author of A Dog's Day using adverbs skilfully to enhance her writing.

A final few little pleas. Please remember to bring Home Learning books to school on a Friday where we can celebrate the fantastic home learning that takes place. Please ensure your children are reading regularly at home. This is vital in developing their fluency as they tackle longer texts in school. Please also remember their reading books and planners need to come into school every day. Thank you so much.

Have a lovely weekend!
