Skell Class Blog

Welcome back to school!

In English we have started to read ‘Bears don’t eat egg sandwiches.’ The children thought of and wrote their own questions to a friend asking them what their favourite food is.

We looked at the different types of text in the book and talked about how bigger, bold text could mean the character was shouting. We thought of different verbs to explain the bear was shouting. ‘Screeched, bellowed, roared, and screamed.’ We have also retold the story and made story maps.

In Maths we have been looking at numbers above 10. We know the numbers 11-19 are made up of ten and another number. We were able to show this using cubes, lego and counters on a tens frame. We have practised counting from a given number and tried hard to stop counting when we reach a given number.

In Phonics we have recapped the sounds' ai, ee, igh and oa. We have read and written words containing these sounds and practised the tricky words I, the, was, you, they, my, by, all.

In Learning Means the World we have started a new unit, ‘What on Earth.’  We have talked about what living things are and sorted pictures into living and non-living things. We drew and painted flowers and talked about the different parts of the flower, including the stem, leaves, petals and flowers. We have also started to look at habitats and have created a habitat for a crab. We discussed having both sand and salt water with rocks and pebbles for the crab to hide.

We are all very proud of the way children have come into school independently, put away their belongings and entered the classroom. Well done!
