Skell Class Blog

Welcome to the Skell Class Blog!

In English we continued to read ‘Bears don’t eat egg sandwiches.’ We thought about the things the bear needed in the story and wrote simple sentences. We created our own version of the story with a tiger. The children came up with lots of different ideas for what the tiger would like to eat. Amelia suggested banana sandwiches, Orla said sweeties and Ernie suggested chocolate spread sandwiches. We created our own story maps and have written sentences about our stories.

In Maths we have practised our subitising skills (knowing the quantity without counting.) The children have used their knowledge of doubles to support their subitising. We have arranged objects in different ways to show the same number and worked hard to identify which group does not have the same number.

In Phonics we have recapped the sounds oo, oo, ar and or. We have read and written words containing these sounds and practised the tricky words: you, they, my, by, all.

In Learning Means the World we have continued our learning about ‘What on Earth.’ We have created earth paintings with balloon printing and made giant tortoises in the making area. Pennyrose chose to use a plate for her tortoise’s body and added paper legs and a head. She decorated the plate with collage materials to create the tortoise shell.

We created a small world for a fairy with the construction materials and drew our small worlds onto a map. We added a key to help us identify the different parts of the map.
