Skell Class Blog

In English we read the story ‘The Ugly Vegetables.’ We talked about why, in the story, the girl thought her garden was ugly. Penny Rose suggested because other gardens had flowers and the girl just had vegetables and leaves. We have written speech bubbles for the characters and sentences to go with pictures from the story. We focussed on using a capital letter, finger spaces and a full stop at the end of the sentence.

We have also written and ordered instructions of how to plant a seed and looked at and tried to say the names of the Chinese vegetables that were planted.

In Maths we have recapped our number bonds to 5 and looked at the parts that make up a whole number. We have used the stem sentence; 5 is made of __ and __. __ and __ make 5. We have used our fingers to represent 5 in different ways and use what they know about 5 to find a hidden number. We enjoyed singing the ‘5 little speckle frogs’ song.

In Phonics we have continued to read and write longer words such as farmyard  and marching. We have focused on adding ‘s’ (chairs) and ‘es’ (boxes) to the end of words. We have recapped the tricky words; he we me be was you they all.

In Learning Means the World we continued to look at China. We looked at one of the tallest buildings in the world. The Shanghai Tower.  Ernie remembered there were over 100 hundred lifts and the lifts were very fast. We have built the Shanghai Tower in the construction area.

In RE we explored what can be found in a Jewish Synagogue.

This week in provision we have looked at the artist Giuseppe Arcimboldo and his fruit and vegetable art. We created our own fruit and vegetable collage faces. We have used paper plates to make Chinese drums. Ivy thought threading the beads was the trickiest part! In maths, we used the Lego to create a tall tower using over 20 bricks. We did careful counting and were able to write down how many bricks we had used.
