Hornblower Class Blog

Another Busy Week!
I've been very proud of the positive way the class has started the new half-term, and it was lovely to see lots of excited smiles and chatter on the first day back!
In Maths, we have begun to explore different times tables. In Year 2, we will learn the 10, 5 and 2 times tables. In English, we are just beginning to look at our new text, 'A Dog's Day', which focuses on exploring a story from different points of view.
As we come to the end of 'Paddington's Passport', we have been learning fascinating facts about different London landmarks. Each table became 'landmark experts' about one specific landmark, and then had to present their findings to other members of the class. Nola shared, "Big Ben is actually a bell, and the tower it is in is called the Elizabeth Tower." Wren found out that, "The ravens outside the Tower of London are really important. Some people think it would fall down if they went away."
In phonics, Freddy liked learning about the silent 'k' in the 'kn' digraph. He learned that people used to pronounce the 'k' many years ago, so we can remember how to spell words with 'kn' by saying 'k-nee', 'k-nock' or 'k-night'!"
