Welcome to the Spa Class blog! We have had a busy week looking at our world.
In English we are reading a book called ‘My World Your World’. We have been spotting the differences and similarities between children all around the world. We have looked at different clothes and animals that we can ride. We thought about which animals we would like to ride and the children came up with ideas such as elephants, kangaroos, tigers and even a whale!
In Maths we have looked at sequencing using the language of ‘first, then, next, last’. We put the Incy Wincy Spider rhyme in the correct order. We also ordered Pip’s first day at Nursery and what she does at home to get ready for school. We have been thinking about how we brush our teeth and putting the instructions in order. We even have toothbrushes to clean the dolls’ teeth!
In Phonics we have been singing the nursery rhyme ‘Miss Molly had a Dolly.’ We were all able to sing the song fast, slow, loud and quiet. We identified rhyming words and tapped the syllables in words. We listened for the ‘W’ initial sound in words and could sort picture cards into words that started with the ‘W’ sound and words that started with a different sound. We have also been practicing our oral blending of words.
In RE we have continued to think about what makes us unique and special. We talked about God’s love for each one of us. God wrote Jerusalem on his hand to show how much he loved his people. We thought about how we would feel if God wrote our name on his hand. The children came up with ‘ Happy, excited, special’ and even said, ‘ I’d tell my mum’! Some of us drew around our hands and wrote our names on them. We then decorated them.
In Learning Means the World we have created different pictures of the Earth by printing and using collage. We made a map of the classroom and studied the globe and map of the world. It has been fun learning the different names of countries and where we live. We have linked our book, ‘My World Your World’ when thinking about cold and hot countries and different clothes, animals and homes.
We celebrated VE Day on Thursday by wearing purple and eating a special lunch together. The dining room was decorated with Union Jack bunting, and we even had flags to wave!
