Welcome to our Spa Class blog!
In English we have read the story of ‘The Train Ride’. We made a story map and talked about all the things that could be seen along the journey. We are learning lots of new vocabulary!
In Maths we have looked at 2D shapes, particularly circles, triangles and rectangles. We described their properties and sorted them into groups. We asked, “How do you know this is a triangle?” and “ How do you know this is not a circle?”
In Phonics we have been singing the nursery rhyme ‘Down at the Station.’ We were all able to sing the song fast, slow, loud and quiet. We identified rhyming words and tapped the syllables in words. We listened for the ‘qu’ initial sound in words and could sort picture cards into words that started with, or contained the ‘qu’ sound and words that started with a different sound. We have also been practising our oral blending of words.
In RE we have looked at how different religions celebrate the birth of a new child. This week we looked at Hindu Dharma. When a Hindu baby is born, the holy symbol of 'Aum' is written on the baby's tongue with a gold pen dipped in honey. A prayer is whispered into the baby's ear - 'May your words be as sweet as honey all your life'. Twelve days after a baby is born, a naming ceremony is held. We also looked at Raksha Bandhan where a sister ties a band of red or gold threads around the right hand of her brother to show love and care.
In Learning Means the World we began our topic of ‘Come Fly With Me’ by having a trip to India! We flew on a plane and visited the mountains, rivers and cities. We learnt about festivals and traditions, including a dance. We made Rangoli patterns and made Diva lamps. We even had a taste of some poppadoms dipped in curry sauce and mango chutney!
