Welcome to our Skell class blog. We have had a wonderful first week back!
In English we read the story ‘The Big Book of Bugs’. We have found out lots of information about the different minibeasts. Boheme explained, ‘Bees suck nectar, and they make it into honey.’ Ernie explained, ‘worms are very sticky, and they eat soil.’
We have found information in books about minibeasts and have written sentences.
In Maths we have been l focusing on subitising, and we have been using a new piece of maths equipment called a Rekenrek. We used our subitising skills to show the correct amounts on the Rekenrek and talked about how we know we have the correct amount. Emilia explained ‘I know I have 3 because 3 and 2 make 5 and there are 2 left.’
In Phonics we have recapped reading and writing words containing the ai, ee, igh, oa, ar, or, ur, ow, oi and ear sounds. We have practised the tricky words: the, I, are, you, they.
In Learning Means the World we have started our new unit of work, ‘Come Fly with Me.’ On Wednesday we made passports and took a flight to India. We explored Indian dancing, tasted Indian foods, looked at Indian landmarks and discussed what it is like to live in India.
In RE last week we looked at how the Hindu faith celebrates the birth of a baby. Hindus pour honey into the baby’s mouth and whisper God’s name in their ear. They have a special naming ceremony called Namkaran.
This week in provision we have been making 10 using ladybirds and counters, creating a mini-beast home in the design and make area. Writing facts about minibeasts, painting minibeasts, and we have opened our new travel agents role play area.
