Laver Class Blog Post

Hello there! We have had a great productive week in Laver Class!

In English we are exploring the story ‘Stella and the Seagull’. We have created story maps to help us to retell the story and completed some hot seating of the different characters in the book. Using the sentence starters, how, what, where, when, why and who to help us to create brilliant questions.

This week the children completed their Phonics Screening Check. Every child should be VERY proud of themselves for their hard work. We are continuing to practice and develop our reading skills through phonics.

In Maths, we have been focusing on the numbers beyond 50. We have been understanding the tens and ones that make up the numbers to 100. Zack spotted that ‘100 has 10 tens’ and Edith said ‘it’s a bit easier to count in tens first and then add the ones’. We worked as a great class team to help Tiny find the numbers beyond 50!

In Learning Means the World we have been exploring our topic ‘Light Up The World’. This week we have sorted different objects in to whether they are a light source or not. Learnt about how to keep ourselves safe in the sun and created leaflets to demonstrate our knowledge.

We have also worked with Yogi this week in PSHE, learning about the different emotions we feel, what they look like and what we can do to bring ourselves back to a calm place when things aren’t going well.

Finally, we managed to fill our class gem jar this week so we have unlocked some new Jump Start Jonny videos for our movement breaks, yay!
