Skell Class Blog

Welcome to our Skell blog!

In English we read the story ‘Dear Dinosaur.’  We also talked about the letters in the story and how they are different from an email. Isaac explained an email 'will get there faster than a letter!'

We thought of questions we would like to ask a dinosaur. Ernie suggested “Why do you have big teeth?” Emilia asked, “What is your favourite food?”

We have written our own letters to the dinosaur, and we know a letter can start with the word dear, and we need to say who the letter is from.

In Maths we investigated the composition of 5. We sang the song, ‘Five little kittens jumping on the bed.’ Each time a kitten fell off the bed, we were able to say how many were left on the bed and how many were on the floor. We had our own turn using 5 counters and hiding some counters for a friend to tell us how many were missing! We can use the stem sentence; 5 is made of ____ and ____; ____ and ____ make 5.

In Phonics we have recapped the sounds: ur, ow, oi and ear. We have read and written words containing these sounds and practised the tricky words: you, they, my, by, all. We enjoyed a dinosaur egg tricky word hunt around the classroom.

In Learning Means the World we continued our learning about ‘What on Earth.’ We looked at a tortoise and a giant tortoise and discussed the similarities and differences. We thought about which one would make a good pet. Jasmine explained a giant tortoise would be too big to live in our homes. Isaac also explained that a giant tortoise walks slower because it is heavier.

This week in provision, we have created junk box dinosaurs, painted pictures of dinosaurs, written questions for a dinosaur, created a dinosaur small world and counted dinosaurs carefully and written the correct number.
