Esk News!

Welcome back to Esk's weekly news!
In Maths we have started a new unit, time. We started the week by learning about Roman numerals. Theana was excited because she has a clock at home with Roman numerals on! We then have been telling the time to 5 minutes. We have been labelling clock faces with how many minutes past and to the hour they are.
In English, we created our own non-fiction information pages about toucans, sloths and geckos. We used a range of features such as titles, images with captions, subheadings and fact attacks!
In Learning Means the World we enjoyed dissecting flowers! We found the leaves, stem, petals, stamen and stigma. Did you know that the stem transports water around the plant and holds it up? Below is Fraser and Poppy's dissection results!
In Guided Reading we continued to read our text, Tropical Rainforests. We read the plants page and retrieved a range of information about the rainforest layers.
1. The emergent layer is the top layer, which is very sunny.
2. The canopy layer has epiphytes that grow on the trees.
3. The understory is the next layer. This is a dense tangle of shrubs, trees and vines.
4. The forest floor is the bottom layer that consists of rotting leaves, dead flowers and it lacks sunlight.
