Laver Blog Post

Hello and what a wonderful last week of the half term we have had in Laver. The sun has been shining, we’ve had a fabulous Numeracy Day! We are looking forward to wearing hats for Dementia Forward on Friday!
In English we have been using our five senses as a writing model for poetry. We learnt that a noun phrase is an adjective + a noun and created noun phrases to match what we could, see, hear, smell, taste and touch in a Summer Garden.
In Maths, we have been focusing on fractions. We know that 2 equal parts means we’ve split the whole in half but now we have gone one step further and learnt that 4 equal parts means we have split the whole into quarters! Thomas K made a fantastic observation, “two quarters is the same as a half”. Good spot Thomas!
On Wednesday 21st March we celebrated Numeracy Day! We launched our day of numbers by having a whole class morning challenge of who can write the most correct number sentences, we found it was a little easier to write addition number sentences and we had a whole class practice of turning an addition number sentence into a subtraction number sentence.
The focus on Numeracy Day was ‘Money’. The adults were set the challenge of dressing as if money were no object… Miss Lee was of course in her PJs, for days of sleeping and eating & Miss Rodgers came dressed to buy and fix up houses so that everyone who needs it has a beautiful place to live. Think we can safely say that Miss Rodgers is the most selfless teacher we have in school (Miss Lee, not so much).
We also had a classroom shop. We each had £5 to spend in the shop, we had to work out how much we could afford to buy. It was tricky Maths to do and everybody gave it a very good go!
In Learning Means the World we have been exploring the world of Inuit people. We practised Inuit drum dancing and Inuit throat singing. We are also going to have a full day of Science on Friday. Learning about different materials and their properties.
