Spa Class Blog

Welcome to our Spa Class blog!

In English we have read the story, ‘Ten Seeds’ where a boy plants 10 sunflower seeds, but only one grows. The children enjoyed seeing all the creatures that ate the seeds and those that caused mishaps! We sequenced the story and counted down from 10 to 1. The boy was not disappointed because he ended up with lots of seeds once his 1 sunflower had withered.

In Maths we have looked at more and less, particularly using ‘fewer’ as our vocabulary. We built towers using cubes and asked who had more and who had less/fewer. We also had to pack a lunch box. Who has more food items? Who has fewer? We enjoyed our ‘ National Number Day’ and wearing different numbers to school!

In Phonics we have been singing the nursery rhyme ‘Jack and Jill.’ We were all able to sing the song fast, slow, loud and quiet. We identified rhyming words and tapped the syllables in words. We listened for the ‘Z’ initial sound in words and could sort picture cards into words that started with the ‘Z’ sound and words that started with a different sound. We have also been practising our oral blending of words.

In RE we have looked at how different religions celebrate the birth of a new child. We watched a short film about how Muslims celebrate and saw how the father whispers prayers into both ears of the baby. They also had a huge family celebration with an enormous cake!

In Learning Means the World we have painted and collaged sunflowers, adding black rice for the seeds. We have also planted our own sunflowers. Hopefully, we will see some growth after the half-term holiday.

We hope that you have a lovely holiday, and we look forward to seeing you in June!
