Exploring resilience with Michael Jordan, and telling the time!
It's great to all be back together! Our new Learning Means The World topic, 'Zero to Hero', has a History focus. In it, we will explore the lives of various significant individuals. First up was Michael Jordan. We learnt how he rose above lots of setbacks in his life through determination, never giving up, and 'practise, practise, practise'. Margot was also particularly amazed that Nike Air Jordans are named after him! We completed some fun but challenging tasks in and out of the classroom, such as trying to launch pieces of unfolded paper into a bin. In this light way, we explored how it can feel to not succeed, and how important it is to keep going.
In maths, we are looking at something equally challenging in its own way: telling the time! We have been using analogue clocks to tell the time to the half and quarter hour, before moving on to telling it to the nearest five minutes. The class have shown a fantastic attitude to grapple with this tricky area. Like Michael Jordan, any additional practice at home telling the time would really benefit the children as well! This game is a great place to start: Telling The Time Game
In English, we have absolutely loved diving into the world of poems. We have spent time exploring just what exactly a poem is, through exploring rhythm, rhyme, repetition, and similes. A particular highlight has been learning the poems 'Picking Poppies' by Violet Macdonald and 'Pancake Chant' by Sue Cowling, and then performing them with great gusto to the rest of the class!
