Esk News!

We have some exciting news to share! On Tuesday we filled our jewel jar! As a reward, we voted to have an extra playtime on the field with cupcakes!

In English, we started our new text, 'Arthur and the Golden Rope'. We learnt about the features of a quest book and compared it to ones we know, such as Harry Potter. We thought about the magical objects that we would take with us on an adventure.

Annalise would take a rope in case she needed to climb anything.

Dexter would take food and water so he won't starve!

Tiana would take a magic wand to guide her.

Emily kindly brought in the next two books in the series. We are very excited to read them!

In Maths we have continued with our unit 'Time'. We learnt about am and pm and discussed the activities we would do in the morning and afternoon. We have also been practising telling the time to the nearest minute.

In Learning Means the World we have started a new unit called 'Come Fly with Me Africa'. We used the atlases to locate the different countries that make up Africa. We have also learnt about African culture, including the languages spoken, food, climate, music and much more! Did you know that in Africa 1,000-2,000 different languages are spoken?

In PE, we had our first athletics lesson. We practised jumping over hurdles. It was quite tricky! We then created our own jumping sequences before trying out each others. Nancy and Noah used a stop-watch to time how long it took the children to complete their sequence.

In RE, we learnt about a puja tray which can be found in some Hindu homes. The tray consists of seven items - sweets or sugar, a diva lamp, water in the pot, Murti, flowers, a spoon and a bell. Each is significant. For example, the flower represents the beauty and fragrance in the world.
