Thomas Edison and a Special Recycling Bin!
We've had a great week in Hornblower. In English, we have been writing similes and using adverbs to describe how we spend our school days as Hornblower superstars. For example, Honor shared that, 'We line up for dinner as quickly as a cheetah.' We look forward to seeing the final class versions, before we write ones about what we are like after school!
In Maths, we have continued to grapple with time. We have been telling time to the nearest five minutes on an analogue clockface, and continuing to show real resilience when it has been challenging.
In Learning Means The World, our hero this week has been Thomas Edison. Elsie was particularly struck by his quote "I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." Through Edison, we have been learning about the value of perseverance, as well as considering how much the world changed through his invention of the lightbulb.
We have also spent some time thinking as a class about sustainability. The class engaged with their usual passion, linking it to their learning before half-term about the impact of deforestation, and other ways that habitats are damaged. Hannah already knew we should 'reduce, reuse, recycle', and was proud to share this with the rest of the class. We found out about the importance of recycling, and refreshed our memories of what can be recycled. The class then created helpful images which are now proudly displayed on our new paper and card recycling bin!
