Skell Class Blog

We have had a very busy week in Skell Class. The children worked extremely hard and showing how amazing they all are!
In English we read the story ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch.’ We discussed the new vocabulary in the book, such as ‘scrumptious, appetising, scavenging,’ and talked about the meaning of those words.
We wrote messages to the Lighthouse Keeper’s wife, Mrs Grinling, to make sure she knew the seagulls were coming to take his lunch. We also designed a truly scrumptious sandwich for the Lighthouse Keeper. Ida chose peanut butter. Atticus chose ham and cucumber sandwiches.
In Maths we have been verbally counting beyond 20 and recognising patterns of the counting system. We have recognised amounts by subitising and collecting the correct number of objects. We counted to 20 and tagged objects each time and used rekenreks to show an equal amount.
In Phonics we have continued to read and write longer words, such as farmer, magnet and thinker. We have been reading and writing longer sentences too! We have recapped the tricky words; no, of, to, into, she, he, we.
In Learning Means the World we recapped our knowledge of India and worked in small groups to create a traditional building in India in the construction area.
In RE we have started to look at special places. We shared our own special places. Bethany explained an old ruin on her holiday was special as it was calm and quiet and Clara explained her garden as it was fun to play there.
This week in provision we wrote messages to the Lighthouse Keeper’s wife, designed a scrumptious sandwich, used colour mixing to create lighthouses and seascapes, made junk model lighthouses, retold the story of the Lighthouse Keeper’s lunch in the small world, made arrangements of 5 and ordered towers to 10.
