Swale News

We’ve had a fantastic and busy week in Year 4, full of exciting learning across the curriculum.

Welcome to our news from this week!

Maths
This week in Maths, we’ve been exploring shapes and angles. We started with directions and turns, taking our learning outside for some active Maths! The children loved practising how to describe turns using language such as  “quarter turn clockwise” and “half turn anti-clockwise”. We then moved on to identifying and describing angles. I was amazed at how quickly the children grasped the difference between acute, obtuse, and right angles. Olivia said she really enjoyed learning about angles!

English
In English, we’ve been diving into our brilliant new book, The Dictionary of Difficult Words. Inspired by it, the children will be creating their own mini dictionaries filled with wonderfully creative vocabulary. We’ve also been learning how to write clear definitions using subordinating conjunctions. Alva mentioned how much he’s enjoyed learning new words — and we’ve seen some fabulous examples of vocabulary in children’s work!

RE
In RE, we completed our comparison between a Gurdwara and a Church, thinking carefully about what each special place tells us about the values and beliefs of the Sikh and Christian faiths. The children made some thoughtful and insightful observations about the similarities and differences — their ideas really impressed us!

We had a wonderful end to our day today, watching the dress rehearsal for Wizard of Oz which was absolutely fantastic!
