What a busy and exciting week in Year 4!
English
We have been practising our note-taking skills, focusing on finding important facts about penguins, lions and polar bears. The children have been learning how to summarise information and record only the key points; a big step towards becoming confident researchers and writers. Savannah said she found it tricky to decide which facts to use as they were all interesting.
Maths
In Maths, we have continued with our work on place value. Using number lines up to 10,000, the children have been carefully following a method to work out what each interval represents. This has really helped us to build accuracy and confidence in reading and placing numbers. Tiana said she found counting in the higher 1000's tricky to begin with but using a number line helped her a lot!
Learning Means the World
Our theme of Lightning Speed has carried on in Science, where we have been thinking with Newton! The class explored what life would be like in a world without electricity. Everyday tasks, like cooking a pizza, suddenly became much trickier! This led to some fantastic discussions and problem-solving ideas. Henry enjoyed writing a paragraph about what he would do without lights.
Guided Reading
We have been sharpening our retrieval skills, learning how to go back into the text to find evidence that supports our answers. This helps us to think like detectives when we read. Jennifer said she is enjoying our text "Squishy Mcfluff"
RE
In RE, we are looking at the People of God in the Old Testament. The children have been reflecting on the faith shown by Noah and David, and thinking about how their trust in God helped them through challenges. In Collective Worship this week our theme has been hope. We have been thinking about what hope means in our lives and how it connects to our RE learning. The children have shared thoughtful reflections on what they are hoping for. Noah said he enjoyed learning about Noah and why he build they arc and Emily said that Noah was obedient as he followed God's orders.
PE
Our PE lessons have continued with gymnastics. We are practising sequencing different rolls and positions, building control, balance and confidence.
