The Ribble Report

Another busy week!
Here is a quick look at what we have been learning in Year 5.
In English, we became detectives of language. We learnt the difference between informal and formal language, practising how to write for different audiences, from friends to the head teacher. We also used adverbials of time to make our instructions clearer, and parenthesis to add extra information to our sentences.
In Maths, we tackled place value with big numbers! We worked with numbers up to 1,000,000, focusing on comparing them, ordering them, and breaking them down (partitioning). Ribble have all been trying really hard with this and it is becoming much easier.
Our current "Learning Means the World" topic took us on a journey through space. We discovered cyclic patterns and learnt how day and night is created. We also researched Galileo, Edwin Hubble, and Leonardo da Vinci in small groups which was very interesting.
That's all for now! We are so proud of all the hard work everyone has put in. Keep up the fantastic effort, Year 5!
