Human Orbits and Counterbalances!
It's been a great week in Wensley!
In Science, as part of our Learning Means The World Topic, we focused on the moon. We learned about the different phases of the moon, and that these are caused by the moon’s position in relation to the sun across its 28-day orbit of the Earth. We explored our understanding of orbits and rotations by becoming the Sun, Moon, and Earth! It was quite a challenge for the 'Earth' to orbit the sun anti-clockwise, whilst rotating anticlockwise, with a 'Moon' orbiting around them! Osman reminded us a gibbous moon is one that is between a half and full moon, and Josh wanted to ensure everybody knew that a waxing moon is one where more of the moon is becoming visible, and a waning moon is the opposite of this.
In PE, Mr Banks again commented on the excellent listening and good sporting behaviour shown during Tag Rugby. The class are really enjoying it! In Gymnastics, the class worked safely in pairs to create some excellent counterbalances. Key to this is trust between the partners. The class learned how to secure grip each other by the wrist and discussed the importance of trust between partners.
In English, we are starting our new text, which is an alternative version of Hansel and Gretel. The children began by writing their own versions of Little Red Riding Hood, to see which fairy tale writing conventions they could include. We will be working on specific areas such as speech punctuation, linking clauses with appropriate conjunctions, and expanding noun phrases using relative clauses in upcoming lessons.
In Maths, we have started our new addition and subtraction unit. Ivy shared that she now uses 'fast mental notes' to help her add and subtract mentally. We have also been recapping column method, and recognising when we need to exchange.
This week the half-termly homework has been sent home. We look forward to seeing who can create a fantastic 'Extreme Reading' photo. Have fun, but stay safe!
