Skell Class Blog

Welcome to our Skell Class blog!
In English we have read the story ‘Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you See?’ We have retold the story using the story language and pictures and have joined in with the Brown Bear song. We have written lists of the animals in the book and listened carefully to hear the initial sound in the words and more sounds. We have retold the story on a story map and were able to put the animals in the correct order.
In Maths we have been subitising and using our fast eyes to recognise the amounts 1, 2, 3 and 4. We looked at number block 4 and used cubes to show the number 4 in different ways.
In Phonics we have looked at the graphemes g, o, c, k. We have identified the initial sounds in words, identified the grapheme and can say the phoneme. We also tried very hard to write the graphemes! Our new tricky word to read is ‘is.’ We have sounded out and blended words such as man, dig, cap, kid and nod. We have played blending games such as ‘ What sound does a c-ar make?’ ‘What sound does a t-r-ai-n make?’
In Learning Means the World we have been thinking about animals and how they use their paws and noses. We discussed how animals use their noses to smell food, other animals and danger. They use their paws to walk and climb.
We have looked at our mouths, hands, eyes, noses, feet and found out about our 5 senses – sight, hearing, touch, taste and smell. We thought about how we have used our senses throughout our day. Freddie explained he could taste sausages at lunchtime. Ivar explained he stroked his puppy and it was soft.
In RE we have thought about how Christians believe God created everything and how Harvest is celebrated.
In provision we sorted pompoms and objects into different colour groups, went on an animal hunt and wrote lists of what we found, retold the story ‘Brown Bear’ on a story map and with puppets. In maths we have been matching subitising cards 1, 2, and 3 and making longer and shorter towers in construction. We have painted animals from our story, made different shades of purple and made a big fingerprint bear.
When working outside, we have been practising taking our shoes on and off to put on our welly boots. (Please add names to shoes as we have had a few mix-ups this week!)
