Swale Class Blog

It’s been another busy and exciting week in Swale Class!

English: We have been exploring how to use prepositions and prepositional phrases to add detail and interest to our writing. The children have enjoyed identifying prepositions in sentences and using them to describe where things happen and how actions take place. There have been some super creative examples that have been shared!

Maths: In Maths, we have been developing our subtraction skills. We began by practising subtraction with one exchange, and this week we have challenged ourselves to work with two exchanges. The children are becoming increasingly confident and are beginning to explain their reasoning well.

Guided Reading: We have started our new text, The Iron Man by Ted Hughes. The class is already fascinated by the mysterious arrival of the Iron Man and are making brilliant predictions about what might happen next.

Music: In Music, we’ve been learning about minor scales and how they can create a particular mood in music. We have started to develop our own musical compositions, thinking carefully about rhythm, pitch, and how to use tempo to convey emotion.

Visit: We have a wonderful visit to Ripon Library this week and they children enjoyed exploring a range of fiction and non-fiction texts and learning how to take a book out on their library card.

RE: We have completed our unit on “What is it like to follow God?”. To answer our big question, the children reflected on God’s covenant with Noah and how Christians today make promises to God and one another during wedding ceremonies. It’s been wonderful to see the children making thoughtful connections between Bible stories and how faith is lived out in the world today.
