Lovely Laver News!
What a fantastic week we've had in Laver Class! Our brains have been busy, and we've been working super hard across all our subjects. It's amazing to see how much we're learning and growing.
This week in Phonics, we've become brilliant at reading and spelling CVCC words. That's a consonant, a vowel, and two consonants right next to each other, like "desk" or "film"! The children have been concentrating really hard to make sure they hear and write all the sounds in the word.
We've been diving into the wonderful world of poetry with our class book, 'I love bugs'. We've been looking closely at how authors use words to make the reader feel like they can really see what they are describing. Laver Class has mastered the use of expanded noun phrases—that's when you add adjectives (describing words) to a noun (a person, place, or thing) to make it more exciting! Instead of just "a beetle," we're writing about "a tiny, shimmering beetle" or "a grumpy, hairy caterpillar." After half term we are going to be writing our own poems about Superheroes!
In Learning Means the World we have been busy learning all about birds. We've been learning all about key features—like the colour of the feathers, the shape of the beak, and the size of the body—that help us identify different birds.
Our Maths lessons have been all about the amazing part-whole model! This brilliant tool helps us understand how numbers are made up. We have been finding missing wholes and missing parts, as well as using our model to write addition number sentences!
The excitement in our classroom when the children were bringing their clay pots home was electric! We hope you are enjoying them at home, as much as we enjoyed making them in school!
