Litton Class Blog

Welcome Back! ✨

What a fantastic first week back we’ve had in Litton Class! We’ve jumped straight into some fascinating new topics across all our subjects. It’s been wonderful to see everyone's enthusiasm and hard work after the break!

🌍 Learning Means the World: Wars of the World

Our new Learning Means the World unit is called Wars of the World, and it's already proving to be a deep and impactful study. This term, we'll be delving into the causes, events, and consequences of both World War I and World War II. Crucially, we're also taking time to look at how war still impacts our world today, exploring current conflicts and the lives of people affected by them. We’ve started our journey with some powerful discussions this week—a great start to a challenging but important unit!

🖋️ English: Magic and Merlin

In English, we’ve started an exciting new fiction unit based on the legend of Merlin! We’ve begun by exploring the main features of this genre of writing, focusing on elements like characterisation, setting, and the use of magical language. The children have been building up some incredible new vocabulary to describe the fantastical world of King Arthur and Merlin. Get ready for some truly imaginative stories coming soon!

Maths: Mastering Division with Factors

This week in Maths, we’ve been focusing on developing a brilliant trick to help us divide larger numbers: using our knowledge of factors. This method breaks down a tricky division problem into two easier steps! We've been practising this technique using the factors of the divisor.

For example, to solve 720 24

1. Find convenient factor pairs for the divisor (24). We used 6 and 4 (since 6 times 4 = 24).

2. Divide by the first factor (6): 720 6 = 120.

3. Divide the result by the second factor (4): 120 4 = 30.

Result: 720 24 = 30.

The children are really getting the hang of making these big divisions much more manageable—it’s a fantastic skill to master!

It's been a truly productive and inspiring week. We can’t wait to share more of our learning adventures with you next time!
