Swale News

Welcome to this week's Swale news!

English – Exploring Blue John

This week, we began reading our new class book, Blue John by Berlie Doherty. The children have enjoyed making predictions and discussing what might happen after Blue John’s decision to leave the Queen of Darkness behind in the cave. It’s been wonderful to see such thoughtful and creative ideas shared in class discussions.

Maths – Multiplication and Division

In Maths, we’ve launched our new topic on multiplication and division, with a focus on the 3 and 6 times tables. Alongside our “rolling numbers” and fluency sessions, the children have been working hard to strengthen their quick recall of multiplication facts. Practising times tables at home would be a great way to reinforce their confidence and accuracy in class.

Religious Education – Being a Sikh in Britain

Our new RE unit focusses on the question: What is it like to be a Sikh in Britain today? We’ve begun learning key vocabulary such as gurdwara, guru, and langar, while also exploring connections between Sikhism and other world religions.

Learning Means the World – Law and Order

Our new topic, Law and Order, explores themes of conflict, democracy, rules, and rights. We started by discussing why rules exist and comparing the rules we follow at school with those at home. The children shared thoughtful ideas and demonstrated a growing understanding of fairness and justice.

Performance Time – The Angel Who Nearly Missed It All

The cast for The Angel Who Nearly Missed It All has now been announced and scripts have been distributed. These will stay in school for now so the children can use them during rehearsals. Further information about costumes and props will be shared in the coming weeks. The school will provide most of the costumes, but we’ll let you know if there’s anything specific needed from home.
