Lovely Laver News

What a sensational week it's been in Year 1! We've been busy artists, mathematicians, writers, and geographers, even surviving a little excitement thrown our way!
This week, our Art lesson was truly dazzling! We explored the amazing technique of pointillism, which uses tiny dots of colour to create a whole picture. We used this method to create vibrant, colourful firework displays. The children showed such patience and precision—our classroom is now full of beautiful, sparkly masterpieces!
In Maths, we've been focusing on fact families. The children are becoming experts at seeing how addition facts are related! We used part-whole models and bar models to help us visualise the numbers and understand our facts.
Our English work this week was super-powered! The children tackled an independent write all about their favourite superheroes, titled 'I love superheroes'. We were absolutely thrilled with the writing and the fabulous use of rhyming words they included to make their poems extra catchy and fun to read.
In our Learning Means the World topic, we turned into geographers! We ventured outside and explored our local area, spotting human features (like buildings and roads) and physical features (like trees and rivers). The children were so observant and eager to classify everything they saw! It’s great to see them connecting their learning to the world around them.
A special shout-out is needed for how brilliantly Laver handled a little interruption—we had a power cut! The children were absolutely amazing and simply carried on with their activities as if nothing had happened. Their calm and positive attitude was truly impressive!
We are so excited about our new outdoor learning area! The children have thoroughly enjoyed exploring the possibilities. The sand and water stations were a massive hit (so many interesting potions were made!), and it was lovely to see them collaborating to build impressive obstacle courses, all while cheering each other on and offering help.
