Skell Class Blog

This week Skell Class have started to join the rest of the school for Collective Worship. The class have all sat and listened really well. We also took part in the Remembrance Service.

In English, we continued to read the information book ‘People Who Help Us.’ We thought about how people at home help us. Gemma explained her Mum ‘helps me with crafts.’ Georgie explained his Dad ‘helps me make cakes.’ We named and labelled a fire engine and things we might find in a doctor’s bag.

In Maths, we have been looking at the composition of numbers and focused on the concept of wholes and parts. We have thought about the parts that make 3, ‘a one and a two makes three,’ explained Alistair. We have also made number block 4 in different ways, ‘there is one on the top and three on the bottom,’ said Tom.

In Phonics, we have been looking at the graphemes v, w, x, y. We have been practising letter writing and have read the tricky words ‘and, has, his, her.’ We have sounded out and blended words such as van, wig, fox and yap. We have read captions, such as ‘a sad cat on a bed,’ and written cvc words, such as sock, hug, rock.

In Learning Means the World we have spent time discussing how to make a new toy squishy. We thought carefully about what we could use to stuff it. Vinny suggested pompoms as they were squishy and Phoebe suggested cotton wool as it is soft. We also brought toys to share with the class.

On Thursday we celebrated Michael Rosen day and spent the day listening to poetry and writing class poems. At the end of the day, we shared our class poem with the whole school.

In provision, we have created some wonderful poppy art. We painted poppies, made collage poppies and used loose parts to create a poppy. Alfie was very proud of his collage poppy!

Freddie shared his favourite day of the week is Friday because we go into the hall and dance with scarves!
