Spa Class Blog

This week in English we continued reading “Kipper’s Toybox” – our words of the week were “fluffy” and "mischievous". We created a story map, and Robyn remembered that the mice said, “Don’t hurt him” and Sophie said the cheeky mice “squeaked”. Later in the week we wrote our own poem inspired by Kipper’s Toybox, to celebrate Michael Rosen Day – you can read what the children wrote below! We shared a lot of non-fiction books this week, to promote our love for reading! Jaxon chose a book all about space in which we learnt what space explorers wore in space, and Elijah chose a book to share which was all about the seasons and what animals do throughout the year, we even learnt that weasels can change their coat colour in winter!

In Phonics we learnt the phoneme ‘a’. We played What’s in the box? and found ants and astronauts, which enabled the children to explore identifying ‘a’ in different words! This week we sang Incy Wincy Spider, everyone was very good at coordinating their singing to the actions.

In Maths we learnt all about one! We went on a 1 number-hunt, the Numberblock one visited us, and we explored how one can be represented in lots of different ways. The children were very good at finding one of each object, from plates to blocks, even finding one in our numicon bucket.

In RE we continued learning about why Christians perform Nativity plays at Christmas. Together we arranged the Nativity story in order, and discussed why Christmas is such an important day to Christians. Daisy said “It is important as it is Jesus’ birthday”, and Robyn said “Jesus started off small like us and then grew up to be very big!”. We started listening to our Christmas songs that we will be learning this term, which the children are very excited about!

In Learning Means the World we explored cuddly toys. We had three new cuddly toy friends join us in the classroom - a Triceratops, a Unicorn and a Turtle. The children enjoyed thinking of names for them, suggestions included “Terracops”, “Butterflyee”, “Popcorn”, “Worldy” and “Dandelion”. We also talked about how giving our favourite toys a cuddle makes us feel, Theo said "Cuddly Tri-tops makes me happy and helps me sleep" and Jacob added that "Brac-saurus cuddles me all night!". Our curiosity cube this week was all about Remembrance Day. The children were very keen to discuss what Remembrance meant to them, and were very respectful during our two minute silence. They created lots of Poppy artwork to display, as well as creating a Poppy eggbox wreath which we have displayed throughout the week. We have been working hard on our magnet eyes this week to help our listening, Spa Bear has been very impressed with how everyone has got on to our Recognition Board this week!

Spa Bear Poem

My teddy bear is soft, cuddly and fluffy.

Its colour is brown and black.

My favourite thing is his black eyes, his big hugs and we love him!
