Lovely Laver News

What a fantastic week of learning and discovery we've had in Year 1! We've been busy little bees, exploring everything from birthday gifts to the jungle!

In English we had a lovely time reflecting on our favourite birthday presents! The children thought carefully about the gift they loved the most and, most importantly, practised using the word 'because' to explain their reasons.
"My best present was my new bike because I can ride it very fast!"

In Maths, we have been working hard on understanding number bonds. These are two numbers that, when put together, make a specific total (like 10!).
We used practical tools like counters and tens frames to help us visualise the different 'parts' that make up the 'whole' number. The children did brilliantly at showing their two parts clearly and discovering all the different number pairs!

This week, we put on our geographer hats! We learnt all about the human and physical features of the world around us.
We had a brilliant time looking at an aerial view map of our local area and trying to spot the different features:
* Physical Features we spotted included the river and the trees in the park.
* Human Features included the roads, our school building, and houses.

Our PE lesson was a wild adventure! We explored the jungle through dance. The children used their imaginations and creative movements to represent things they might encounter:
* Climbing over imaginary logs.
* Crawling under vines.
* Going around a tall tree.
It was wonderful to see everyone moving their bodies in different ways and embracing the jungle theme!

To finish off our week, we had a fabulous poetry day. We joined in with a Live Event lead by Michael Rosen and we worked together as a team to write a brilliant acrostic poem all about our community!

We also thoroughly enjoyed our ice-creams from C&M Ices! We had some wonderfully smiley faces!
