Esk News

Welcome to this week's exciting news from Esk!

This week we have been very busy having a lot of practical fun in Science. We have been learning about Archimedes and his discoveries. We were challenged to try and make a lump of plasticine float in water! Mason realised that he needed to get some air into the plasticine. Hannah made a ball but found that it didn’t float. Ophelia made her piece of plasticine really flat and thin and discovered that hers did float!

Later on, we went outside for a very wet Eureka experiment! We observed and compared what happened when we put a large amount of corks into a tub of water and then a large amount of rocks. Aaliyah saw that when the rocks were put into the water they didn’t float. Charlie observed that the water level went up and spilt over the side when we added more rocks. Emily said this is known as “displacement”.

In RE, we have been thinking about the Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We have been thinking of ways to describe each of these, but in the style of a kenning / riddle, e.g. Time Starter or Cross Carrier. This work also helped us the following day during our Michael Rosen Day.

The children had lots of fun watching a live webinar with Michael Rosen. Stanley thought the Michael Rosen day was fun, and he enjoyed watching the videos, especially the No Breathing poem. Later on, we wrote our own kennings / riddles about items of food. Oscar D enjoyed writing his all about Jelly Babies.

We have been very busy practising our songs for the Y3 and 4 Christmas performance. There will be two performances of this taking place on Tuesday 9th December 2:00 - 3:00pm and 5:30 - 6:30pm. The evening performance is optional, but we hope that as many children as possible will be able to take part.

Please see below for more dates for your diary.
Christmas Craft afternoon – Friday 12th December 2.30 - 3.30pm
Year 3 Christmas party – Monday 15th December in the afternoon. Children can come in party clothes but please be aware that they will still be going out to play at break and lunch, so they will need weather appropriate footwear.
