Spa Class Blog

Welcome to the Spa Class Blog.

This week in English we started reading “Where’s My Teddy?” - our words of the week were “enormous” and “gigantic”. We enjoyed reading the book and finding out where the teddy bears had gone to! We found rhyming words in the book such as “huddle” and “cuddle”, we even made some Silly Soup putting in lots of rhyming ingredients - cats, hats, dogs and frogs! Thank you to everyone who brought in books to share this week - about changing seasons, nursery rhymes and even ketchup being on cornflakes…!

In Phonics we learnt the phoneme ‘t’. We enjoyed finding out what was in the box and listening to where we could hear the ‘t’ sound. The children loved adding more sounds to our Bertha the Bus song, so we have started to make our own cardboard bus with pictures of us in it! This week we sang the nursery rhyme Jack and Jill. We tried very hard to find the rhyming words from our phonics rhyme - “Black” and “Jack”, and “Jill” and “Hill”.

In Maths we learnt all about two! The Numberblock two visited us this week, we learnt that you can show two in lots of different ways. The children have been working hard to subitise two - seeing a number without needing to count it - we have done this by creating our own sets of two, and even building a bridge to cross a river made up of groups of two stepping stones.

In RE we continued learning about why Christians perform Nativity plays at Christmas. We talked about how every year Christians celebrate Christmas because as Sophie said “That’s when Baby Jesus was born!”. We spoke about how everyone has a birthday once a year and how it is important to celebrate, Daisy spoke about how you have “tasty food, like a princess birthday cake” on your birthday, and Theo added that “you get presents”. We have continued learning our Christmas songs and the children are doing well at coordinating their singing and actions!

For Learning Means the World we explored moving toys, we looked at how a wind-up car, a helicopter and a bouncy ball move. Theo said that you could “turn” the propellors of the helicopter to make it fly, Sephy added that it “makes a clicking sound”. Daisy told us that you could “boing” the ball and Sienna said you could “throw it”. When we were looking at the wind-up car Noah said you could “pull it back and let it roll”, Hayden suggested you "could push it along the ground to your friends”. Our curiosity cube this week was all about Stacking Dolls; when we passed them around we heard something rattling inside. Sienna said “Oh, it opens and there is something inside!”, and inside there was an even smaller doll! The children liked looking at the different patterns on the dolls, Elijah thought that the “gold on her head is shiny like sprinkles, like fireworks!”. This week we have been working on our sharing skills, Spa Bear and I have been very impressed with all the sharing of toys that is happening in class, it is lovely to see the children being such great friends!
