The Ribble Report

What have we been up to this week?
In Maths, we have been comparing fractions, ordering fractions and applying our understanding of how to find equivalent fractions to more complex questions.
In Art, children have now created their own amazing planets and they look absolutely fantastic. Miss Grayson is already thinking about where they could go on display.
In PE, we have completed the Bollywood Dancing part of our dance unit. The children got the opportunity to share their final dances with the class, and we were very impressed with everyone's progress across the few weeks.
In Learning Means the World, a lot of our focus this week has been on history. We spent some quality time on Tuesday exploring pictures of historical artefacts, hunting for clues about their purpose. After revealing the real artefacts' role, we reflected on our learning and composed further questions to learn more about in lessons to come. In our learning, we also recapped reasons why the Romans were so successful. One of their impressive tactics was the testudo formation, which the children were very intrigued by.
In English, the children have planned out their final pieces, which are all about ballistas. They have spent a lot of time on the development of these, and we are looking forward to writing them up neatly (to present them somewhere in the classroom). The children will be able to decide their own layout to create engaging designs and the information will be full of complex sentences, cohesive devices and adverbials.
We think it is also very important to mention that the Year 5 Christmas party will be on Wednesday, 17th December, in the morning. This is very exciting and will come around quickly!
