An Out of This World Experience!
Date reminder: Year 5 Christmas Party: Wednesday 17th December (morning)
We had a very exciting start to the week, as we adventured firstly to Ripon Cathedral School and then to the far reaches of the universe (inside a mobile planetarium)! I was immensely impressed and proud of the fantastic knowledge that Josh, Ivy, Ted, Lizzie and many others showed through their brilliant sharing of knowledge and asking of very challenging questions to the facilitator!
In English, we have begun to explore the beautiful poem, Bethlehem, by Carol Ann Duffy. We wrote our own poems about a Roman battle scene as an elicitation task. These were very different in tone to Duffy's poem, but very evocative in their own way as well.
In Maths, we have been adding fractions. We've spent a little more time trying to become really secure in this area, and continue to work really hard as a class.
Another highlight of the week has been using TinkerCAD to begin to design our own versions of Roman villas, complete with atriums, courtyards, pillars, and other key features. There are already some brilliant pieces of work underway, and the gasps of excitement as children proudly saw their work on the big screen in class at the end of the lesson were wonderful.
