Lovely Laver News

What an exciting and busy week we've had in Year 1! We are so proud of all the hard work and enthusiasm shown by our learners across all subjects.
This week, we have been busy bees diving deep into the world of subtraction! The children are becoming real experts at taking away numbers.
A major focus has been mastering fact families. The children have worked incredibly hard to understand how three numbers are related and can be used to create all 8 related facts (four addition and four subtraction sentences). Understanding this concept is a huge step in building a strong number sense!
Mrs. Wright is going to need a new pair of socks after this week, because we have absolutely blown hers off with their phonics progress! We have been busy consolidating our new digraphs; ay (play), ou (cloud), oy (toy) and ea (meat). The children are doing a brilliant job of blending these sounds to read and segmenting them to spell.
We’ve had some important discussions about the environment as part of our 'Learning Means the World' topic. We focused on the crucial question: How can we care for our environment?
We got creative and decorated our very own recycling bin for the classroom, making sure we know exactly what goes where!
We had a closer look at the recycling process, specifically learning about how paper is recycled and turned into new things. It was fascinating to see the journey of a single piece of paper!
Don't forget, Friday 5th December is our highly anticipated Elf Day! We are all looking forward to swapping our school uniform for something festive and having lots of Christmas fun to end our wonderful week.
Important Dates!
Elf Day - Friday 5th December
Nativity - Tuesday 16th December (Performances in the morning and the afternoon)
