The Ribble Report

Advent Begins...
What a treat this week has been! On Monday, Year 5 ventured over to Ripon Cathedral School and to delve into the world inside a mobile planetarium. It was fantastic to see the children's amazed faces as we took in a great deal of knowledge.
In English, we begun to explore the interesting poem, Bethlehem by Carol Ann Duffy. We started the topic by writing our own poems about a Roman battle scene (we used a detailed picture as inspiration).
In Maths, we have been adding fractions. We have spent a lot of time working on the skills that we need to work this out beautifully in our books. Eddie did an exemplary piece of work which showed the class exactly how we needed to set it out. The children all worked very hard on this - it was lovely to see the epiphany moments.
In Learning Means the World, we had another treat. We used TinkerCAD to start designing our own versions of Roman villas. Next week, we will be able to use the skills that we practised to create our final products and ensure that we include all the appropriate features too. I can see great potential already!
