🎄 Wharfe Class: Jingle Bells and Finishing Touches! ✨

Hello and welcome to the latest update from a very festive Wharfe Class! The countdown to Christmas is officially on, and the excitement levels are through the roof!

We’ve had an incredibly busy and fun-filled few weeks as we embrace the festive spirit while keeping our minds sharp in the classroom.

🧝 Spectacular Seasonal Fun!

We thoroughly enjoyed getting into the Christmas spirit for Elf Day! It was fantastic fun dressing up, and we loved being the helpful hands throughout the school. We spent time outside, making sure all the other children had lots of fun and games while dressed in their festive gear. It was wonderful to help spread some Christmas cheer across the whole school.

We were also captivated by the fantastic Year 3 and 4 Nativity play in church. It was called 'The Angel who nearly missed it all,' and the performances were absolutely brilliant! It really put us in the mood for the season.

✍️ Literacy and Learning Focus

In our English lessons, we have been working hard to put the finishing touches on our amazing Merlin stories. We’ve been focusing on polishing our work and making it the very best it can be.

A big part of this process involved us having a go at peer marking each other's stories. This meant reading a friend's work and giving them helpful feedback on what they did well and what could be improved. We all seemed to get a lot from this activity—it's a great way to learn from each other!

🔢 Maths Mastery: Fractions Focus

We've been tackling some challenging and important work in Maths! Our focus has been on comparing and ordering fractions.

We learned two key methods for comparing:

  • Comparing Fractions with the Same Denominator: When the bottom number (the denominator) is the same, it’s easy! We just look at the top number (the numerator) – the bigger the numerator, the bigger the fraction
  • Comparing Fractions with the Same Numerator: This is where it gets trickier! When the top number (the numerator) is the same, we look at the denominator. The smaller the denominator, the bigger the fraction! This is because the whole has been split into fewer, larger pieces. We then used these rules to order groups of fractions from smallest to largest. This involved lots of careful thinking and discussion, and we are now much more confident in understanding the relationship between the numerator and the denominator!

☀️ Shadow Science

In Science, we've been investigating how shadows are formed. We learned that light travels in straight lines and that an opaque object blocks the light, creating a shadow.

We were lucky enough to have a rare sunny day to do some practical investigating! We absolutely loved experimenting with making and manipulating shadows outside. It was fascinating to see how the position of the light source changed the size and shape of the shadow.

🎨 Crafty Christmas Creations!

Finally, we've been getting super creative! We have been busy making some truly gorgeous Christmas Cards with Mrs. Needham. We can't give too much away, but trust us—you are in for an absolute treat when they come home! We hope you love them.

It's a wonderful time to be in Wharfe Class, full of great learning and festive cheer!
