Lovely Laver News

What a wonderful and productive week it's been in Year 1! We've been busy bringing a touch of magic to our English work, exploring a number relationships, and becoming expert scientists.

This week, we focused on making our festive sentences absolutely perfect! We learnt all about the importance of our "magical capital letters" at the start of a sentence and our "fabulous full stops" at the end. The children worked incredibly hard to check their writing and make sure every sentence was properly punctuated. Our writing has never looked neater!

We have been deep-diving into the exciting world of fact families in Maths! A fact family is a group of related addition and subtraction facts that use the same numbers. We learnt that if we know one addition fact, we automatically know two subtraction facts (and often another addition fact!). This helps us understand how facts are related and makes problem-solving much easier.

As part of our 'Learning Means the World' project, we finished the most exciting part of our plant experiment! We carefully wrote up our findings to determine which environment was the best for our plants to grow big and strong. The children were fantastic at recording their observations and drawing conclusions based on the evidence. We had some very interesting results!
