Lovely Laver News

What a whirlwind of a week we have had! From city bus tours to the freezing Arctic, the children have been working incredibly hard.
Our classroom turned into a tour bus this week! We went on a "virtual" bus ride and looked at all the different places we passed. To make our writing more exciting, we used adjectives. We didn't just see the "cathedral"—we saw a tall, big, lovely cathedral! We didn't just see a "park"—we saw a beautiful, green, grassy park!

We have been "Shape Superstars" this week! We’ve been naming 2D shapes like squares, circles, and rectangles. We also played "Odd One Out" where we had to explain why a shape didn't belong in a group.
Wrap up warm! We have dived into our Arctic topic. We discovered that the Arctic is very different from the UK because it only has two seasons:
-
Winter: It is freezing cold and the ground is permafrost (permanently frozen). We even saw that there is a day when the sun never wakes up!
-
Summer: It is brighter and the sun can still be seen at midnight!
We even tried to plant a tree in ice to see what permafrost feels like. We realized very quickly that plants find it very hard to grow in the frozen Arctic ground!

We have started our journey with split digraph. We know that these are two letters that make one sound, but they have been split up by another letter. We've been looking at sounds like a-e (make) and i-e (stride).
In RE, we listened to the Parable of the Lost Sheep. We talked about how the shepherd wouldn't stop looking until he found his one missing sheep. It taught us that God values everyone and that no one should ever be left out. We made our very own "Class Flock" and talked about how we can show love to our friends every day.
