Wharfe Blog Post

What a whirlwind of a week we’ve had! From mastering tricky numbers to debating the big mysteries of the universe, you have all shown incredible curiosity and hard work. Here is a little look back at everything we’ve been up to.

🔢 Master Mathematicians

In Maths, we’ve been tackling fractions—and you’ve made it look easy! We moved beyond just adding them and started multiplying and dividing fractions.

Remember our top tips:

  • Multiplying: Just keep it simple—multiply the numerators, then multiply the denominators!
  • Dividing: We used our secret weapon... KCF! (Keep it, Change it, Flip it).

✍️ Expert Writers

In English, our sentences are becoming much more sophisticated. We’ve been acting like "sentence architects," building three specific types:

  1. Simple: One clear idea. (The sun shone.)
  2. Compound: Joining two ideas with a conjunction like 'and' or 'but'. (The sun shone, and the birds sang.)
  3. Complex: Using subordinate clauses to add extra detail. (Although it was cold, the sun shone brightly.)

Your writing is sounding much more professional and varied. Keep it up!

🌿 The Circle of Life

For our Learning Means the World theme, we have turned into budding biologists! We’ve been comparing the Life Cycles of different creatures:

  • Mammals: Looking at live births and growth.
  • Amphibians & Insects: Exploring the wonders of metamorphosis. 🐛
  • Birds: Investigating how they develop inside eggs.

It’s been fascinating to see how differently—and how similarly—life begins across the animal kingdom.

💭 The Big Question

Finally, in RE, we’ve had some truly "fabulous" discussions. We’ve been exploring the Big Question: Why do some people believe in God and others don’t?

I was so impressed by your maturity and the respect you showed for different viewpoints. Whether looking at faith, science, or personal experiences, you listened to each other beautifully and thought deeply about what makes us who we are.

Wharfe Class has swapped the classroom for the court this week as we kicked off our brand-new Netball unit in PE! There has been a fantastic energy in the air (along with a few stray balls!), and it has been wonderful to see everyone getting stuck into learning the ropes of this fast-paced team sport.
