Litton Class Blog

Hello everyone! It has been another busy and productive week in Litton Class. The children have been working incredibly hard across the curriculum, tackling complex mathematical concepts and engaging in very mature discussions in our foundation subjects.

Here is a breakdown of what we have been up to:

Maths: Fractions in Depth

This week, we have been diving deep into the world of fractions. We moved on to multiplying and dividing fractions not just by whole numbers (integers), but by other fractions as well.

To help us master the division of fractions, we have been using a special strategy called "Keep it, Change it, Flip it!" (KCF).

📝 English: Mastering Sentence Structure

In English, our focus has been on improving the flow and variety of our writing. We have been revising subordinating and coordinating conjunctions to help us construct different types of sentences:

  • Simple sentences
  • Compound sentences
  • Complex sentences

By understanding how to use these conjunctions effectively, the class is learning how to add detail and sophistication to their writing.

🌍 Learning Means the World: Life Cycles

Our current theme has taken a scientific turn this week. We have been conducting a comparative study on the life cycles of different animal groups, specifically:

  • Mammals
  • Insects
  • Birds
  • Amphibians

We spent time analysing the similarities and differences between them—for example, looking at which animals go through metamorphosis (like amphibians and insects) versus those that are born as smaller versions of the adult (like mammals).

💭 RE: Belief and Discussion

In RE, we tackled a very big philosophical question: "Why do some people believe in God and others don't?"

This sparked lots of interesting and respectful discussion among the class. To help us articulate our thoughts, we defined and applied three specific terms:

  1. Theist: Someone who believes in a god or gods.
  2. Atheist: Someone who does not believe in a god or gods.
  3. Agnostic: Someone who believes that nothing is known or can be known of the existence or nature of God.

🎨 Art with Mrs. Needham

Finally, in our Art lesson with Mrs. Needham, we have started a new creative project. We are currently designing our own emblems to represent inclusion. The children are thinking carefully about what symbols and imagery best represent welcoming everyone.

Have a wonderful weekend!
