Ouse's News!

Welcome back to our weekly blog! It has been an incredibly busy and creative week in Year 2.

English

This week, we turned into authors as we began creating our own alphabet books. To make our writing even more exciting, we've been focusing on alliteration – where words in the sentence start with the same sound.

Maths

In our Maths lessons we have continued to explore money. Our big discovery this week was the conversion between the two:

100p = £1

The children have been challenged to find as many different ways as possible to make £1 using different coin combinations.

Mastering Number

During our Mastering Number sessions we have been looking at the number 9. We've been decomposing the number to see exactly what it is made of.

RE

In RE we have been learning about the Jewish tradition of Shabbat. We discussed hpw it is a special time for rest and family. The children learnt about the different ways it is celebrated, including the lighting of the candles, sharing Challah bread, and the significance of the Friday night meal.

Art

In our Art session with Mrs Needham, we learnt about the inspiring artist Christy Brown. We discovered that he had cerebral palsy and, because he didn't have use of his hands, he used his feet to create incredible paintings and write stories.

We decided to challenge ourselves to paint using only our feet. We quickly realised just how much skill and patience it takes! It was a bit messy, very tricky, but a wonderful way to appreciate how artists can overcome challenges to create beauty.
