What a whirlwind of a week it has been! It’s been absolutely wonderful to see the classroom buzzing with so much energy and focus. From tricky spellings to inspiring speeches, Wharfe has been firing on all cylinders. Here is a little look at what we’ve been up to.

Master Linguists and Maths Magicians 📝🔢

In English, we have been diving deep into the weird and wonderful world of the 'ough' letter string. We’ve discovered that it’s one of the trickiest parts of the English language—is it rough, through, though, or ought? The children have done a brilliant job navigating those sounds.

We’ve also been levelling up our writing style by using modal verbs to express possibility and crafting sophisticated compound and complex sentences. The quality of the writing coming out of the class right now is top-tier!

Over in Maths, we’ve been putting our division and multiplication skills to the test by finding fractions of amounts.

The children are becoming real pros at "dividing by the denominator and multiplying by the numerator." It’s a tough concept to master, but the persistence in the room has been fantastic.

"I Have a Dream..." 🕊️

Our Learning Means the World sessions have been incredibly moving this week. We have been studying Martin Luther King Jr. and the monumental impact he had on the Civil Rights Movement.

We listened to his iconic "I have a dream" speech, and it inspired the children to think about the world today. They have been designing their own "dreams" for the future, and I have to say, the work produced was so thoughtful and mature. It’s clear that Wharfe class cares deeply about making the world a better place.

Netball Stars 🏀

Things are getting competitive (and very skilful!) in PE. We’ve been continuing our netball unit, and the progress is amazing. Our passing is becoming much sharper and more accurate, and the shooting? Wow! The hoops were rattling all lesson. It’s great to see such brilliant teamwork and sportsmanship on the court.
