Skell Class Blog

Welcome to the Skell Class Blog!
We had a great trip to Ripon Library on Tuesday. The children loved exploring the books and choosing a book to take home. All library books are due back to the library by Tuesday 10th February.
In English, we read the story ‘Owl Babies.’ The children enjoyed joining in retelling the story, sharing sentences to describe different parts of the story and sequencing pictures from the story in the right order.
In Maths, we have been looking at the composition of 5. We have been singing the ‘Five Little Speckle Frogs’ song and working out how many frogs are left on the log and how many are in the water. We used the stem sentence ‘Five is made of __ and __.
In Phonics, we have recapped digraphs ch, sh, th, ng and nk. These are the sounds the class is finding tricky to remember. We have read words such as chip, shop, moth, ring and pink. We have read and written the tricky words, go, no, into, she, he, of.
In Learning Means the World we looked at rainbow fish and sharks and found out facts. Alice shared 'rainbow fish live in groups.' Freddie explained 'they get brighter as they get older.' We mixed water colours to paint the rainbow fish. The children all enjoyed adding a sparkly scale to their fish like in the story ‘The Rainbow Fish.’
In PE, we started a dance unit, we pretended to be cars and made different movements around the hall.
In RE, we have started to look at Salvation. We looked at the story of 'Dan the Donkey' and how he helped Jesus go through the streets to meet His people. We looked at the word 'Hosana,' and talked about how it means 'save us.'
In provision, we have enjoyed lots of owl activities, such as making owl puppets, fingerprint owls, making owl books and writing simple words and captions.
