Super Skell Class Blog

In English, we have continued to read the story ‘Owl Babies.’ We have found out information about owls and made our own books. Ivar explained, ‘Owls eat frogs and mice.’ Tommy explained, ‘Owls claws are called talons.’ We have found out about nocturnal animals. Ojas explained, ‘Nocturnal means animals that come out at night.’ The children did ever so well, writing lists of nocturnal animals using their phonic knowledge. We also created our own owl baby story together.
In Maths, we have been looking at the composition of numbers. We sang the song ‘Five Little Aliens,’ and looked at how numbers can be made from ‘5 and a bit.’ For example, 7 can be made from 5 and 2. We have shown this using a double dice frame.
In Phonics, we have looked at the digraphs ur, ow, oi, and the trigraph ear. We have read words such as surf, down coin and fear. We have read and written the tricky words was, you, they, into, my, by, all.
In Learning Means the World, we identified different animals' teeth and talked about how they are similar and different. ‘Sharks' teeth can grow back.’’ Hippos have 2 very big teeth.’ Georgie.
We read the story Nugget and Fang and thought about how all the fish were scared of the Shark (Fang) as he had sharp teeth. At the end of the story, Fang saved all the little fish.
In RE, we continued to look at the meaning of the word 'Hosanna.' 'It means save us,' said Alice. We talked about how Jesus helped to save Christians and that Jesus was a bit like a superhero.
In provision, we have created owl collages, owl chalk pictures, we have created our own crazy mixed-up fish pictures, written c, o, a, letters in the sand. We have also built some amazing robots in the making area!
