This week we have been exploring creatures under the sea!
In English we have started reading “Don’t worry little crab” – our words of the week were “squelch” and “adventurous”. We enjoyed predicting who Little Crab might see under the sea and drawing our own sea creatures. Albie drew a Beluga Whale and Archie drew a dolphin. Later in the week, we acted out the book; Robyn and Noah were Very Big Crab, Elijah and Jaxon were the Little Crab, Daisy, Marwa and Rudi were fish. Everyone enjoyed helping tell the story together, we even joined in with some of the phrases in the book, “Whoosh!” being a particular favourite! This week we shared books about the Good Dinosaur and Stick Man - Spa Bear and I were really impressed with everyone’s listening skills, all the children made it into our recognition board!
In Phonics we learnt the phoneme ‘c’ for crown and carrot! Our nursery rhyme was Miss Molly had a Dolly. We enjoyed the ‘what’s that sound’ this week, Sophie identified that one of the sounds was “a rat-a-tat-tat on the door” and Robyn guessed that another was “someone running quickly”.On this week’s visit with Bertha the Bus, we saw a cat!
We continued learning about the number four in Maths. We sang about four little bears and counted back from four to zero, we even went on a number four Numberblock hunt! We completed our stem sentence when exploring making four spots on ladybirds, counting how many black and non-black spots there were: “There are 4 because I can see ___ and ____” . We found that we could make four anywhere, Jacob even found “three add one makes four” during lunch!
In RE we continued learning about Salvation and discussing what saving someone means and how Jesus helped save Christians. Daisy said that "if someone is lost and someone gets them home" was saving people, and Elijah added that "mummies and daddies are superheroes!". We enjoyed singing Hosanna and doing all the actions, we even sang it in provision!
This week’s Learning Means the World continued our learning about sharks and whales. In our Curiosity Cube we had a letter from Spa Bear’s Mum this week, and she has been exploring the oceans. We found out that her favourite creature was a shark! Spa Bear’s Mum sent us pictures of a shark’s life cycle. We learnt that a baby shark was called a pup and that sharks can live for around 30 years! We discussed what our favourite sea creatures were; Marwa said she likes “turtles because they want to play”, Albie added that he liked “turtles because they swim”, Saimoni said “fish” and Robyn said “a shark because they have sharp teeth!”. We have enjoyed making our own paintbrushes out of tin foil and using them to create dramatic seascapes! Next week we are going to add some sea creatures… We had our first PE session in the hall this week, Spa Bear and I were really impressed with the wow walking around school!
