The Ribble Report

It has been another busy week in Ribble!

In English, Ribble have produced some amazingly descriptive writing this week. The children have been busy building vocabulary word banks, practising speech and writing opening paragraphs of their stories.

Maths has been lovely. The children have worked so hard to learn some new skill in our new 'Fractions' topic. We started with multiplying unit fractions by integers (whole numbers) and then moved on to non-unit fractions. After this, we have been working on more tricky multistep step problems that involve multiplying mixed numbers by integers.

In our geography lessons, we have started looking at Sydney, which is another cosmopolitan city. We spent some time when the class used atlases to pinpoint Australia’s closest neighbours and the class thoroughly enjoyed it. Aryan said 'It was lots of fun'.

In science, children worked in groups to think scientifically. They were set a challenge to design their own group experiments to test the absorbency of cotton wool. They needed to create their own enquiry question, identify variables, and consider how to ensure a fair test. We recapped the meaning of each of the different variables (independent, control and dependent) and discussed their purpose. The children were all very excited to hear that we would be doing the practical experiment next week!

On Monday next week, the children will be playing football in PE. Please make sure appropriate footwear is worn.

Have a lovely weekend – make sure you go on TTRS to beat Year 6!
