Ouse News!

Welcome back to our weekly news!
Maths
In Maths, we have been doubling and halving. The children have been busy connecting these concepts to create multiplication and division sentences. It has been wonderful to see them realise that if they knew 2x4=8, they also know that half of 8 is 4.
English
We have been writing our own story similar to 'The Boy who cried Ninja', where the characters take different items from Tim's house. From mischievous cats to bees, the children used fantastic descriptive language to bring their home invasions to life.
Science
In Science this week we have explored electricity. The children successfully built their own circuits using a battery, wires and a bulb. We then introduced switches. We had some great discussions about how a switch works by creating a break in the circuit to turn the light off.

Learning Means the World
In Learning Means the World we learnt about Malala Yousafzai. We were inspired by her bravery and resilience. We learnt about her achievements, such as being the youngest person to receive a Nobel Peace Prize.
Safer Internet Day
This week was also Safer Internet Day, and we spent a lot of time thinking about how to stay safe and happy online.
- We discussed the technology we use everyday, like tablets, phones and voice assistants (like Alexa or Siri).
- We received an anomalous email and had to become detectives. By looking for clues in the text, the children drew what they thought the sender looked like, sparking a conversation about self-image and identity and how people can represent themselves differently online.
- We talked about what to do if something online makes us feel worried or upset. The children identified their trusted adults they can go to for help.
- We loved reading Smartie the Penguin and Digiduck, which helped us understand how to be kind and careful on the internet.
