Litton Class
Litton Class Blog: Inspiration, Exploration, and Online Safety!
Welcome back to the Litton class blog! We have had a brilliant start to the term, diving straight into some fascinating new topics. Here is a look at what we have been up to recently.
A Huge Thank You!
Before we get into our weekly learning, it was absolutely wonderful to see so many parents at the end of last half term for our Year 6 Online Safety Workshop. The children worked incredibly hard on their presentations and shared their insightful work beautifully. They did a fantastic job outlining both the positives and the negatives of a wide range of online platforms, and we are so proud of the maturity they showed when discussing such an important topic!
English: Brilliant Biographies
In English, we have just started an exciting new unit all about biographies.
To kick things off, we spent time reading a diverse range of biographical texts to unpick them and pull out the key features that make them successful. Now, the children have started researching their very own inspirational characters to write about! We have some fantastic subjects chosen already:
-
Ellie has decided to explore the life of Abraham Lincoln.
-
Will has been inspired by the incredible athletic career of Cristiano Ronaldo.
-
Daisy has chosen the trailblazing aviator, Amelia Earhart.
We cannot wait to read the finished pieces once they have gathered all their research and put pen to paper!
Maths: Mastering Measurement
Our focus in Maths has shifted to measuring area and perimeter.
The class has been looking closely at a range of rectilinear shapes. We have been investigating how to find the area and perimeter using mathematical formulas, and the children have been applying these skills to trickier compound shapes (shapes made up of two or more simple rectangles).
They are showing great perseverance in breaking these larger shapes down to find the missing measurements!
Learning Means the World: 'Too Hot To Handle'
We are thrilled to introduce our brand new topic in our Learning Means the World curriculum: 'Too Hot To Handle.' As the title suggests, we are looking at the geography of our incredible planet. So far, we have been exploring global mapping by locating:
-
Lines of latitude and longitude
-
The Equator
-
The Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn
We are also investigating the different climate zones around the world, understanding why certain areas are scorching hot while others are freezing cold. It has sparked some brilliant geographical questions from the class!
