Swale News

What a busy and exciting start to the term we have had!

English

We have launched our new English topic based on A River by Marc Martin. The children have been exploring prepositions of place and how they help to create movement and flow within writing.

Using this inspiration, we imagined a world beyond our classroom window and wrote short descriptive pieces filled with prepositional phrases. Darcy impressed us all with a fantastic, imaginative story involving marshmallows and ice cream!

Maths

In Maths, we have been comparing and ordering mixed numbers.

The children have been:

  • Placing fractions accurately on number lines
  • Using the symbols <, > and = to compare values
  • Explaining their reasoning clearly

It has been wonderful to see their growing confidence with fractions.

Learning Means the World – Picture Our Planet

We have begun our exciting new topic, Picture Our Planet. Our focus country is Brazil, where we are exploring both human and physical geographical features.

To bring our learning to life, we imagined that aliens had landed on Earth and that we were their tour guides! The children selected three places to showcase, describing the key human and physical features of each destination.

We were also very lucky to have a special guest speaker from Brazil, who shared first-hand experiences about life in the country.

Dance Festival

This week, we performed at the Dance Festival and had an amazing time!

A special mention goes to Bethany, Hannah and Jaxon, who were recognised for their determination and expressive body language during the performance.

We are incredibly proud of the entire class and everyone who took part, what a brilliant achievement!

RE

In RE, we are focusing on Christianity and exploring the concept of Salvation, particularly how it links to the Easter story.

The children created thoughtful concept cards to represent their understanding of what Salvation means.

Dates to Remember
